Have fun, make friends, perform!
The Silver Sambistas are a not-for-profit community group that brings over 50s together through learning and playing Brazilian carnival music.
What more energising and social a thing to do on a Monday morning than drum with like-minded people!?

There is a break halfway through the session where tea and biscuits are provided.

Put yourself on the waiting list and we’ll be in touch as soon as we can offer you a place. The list isn’t too long, but this way we can make sure everyone has the best start possible and that the group remains a healthy number.
-
Absolutely not! No experience necessary. Classes are taught in an accessible, friendly inspiring way that nurtures all abilities.
-
Nope! All equipment is provided. Some people choose to go on and get their own instrument to practise or make it their own, but it’s not necessary.
-
All physical abilities are catered for, as much as possible. Classes are accessible to wheelchair users or those who might not be able to stand for too long at once. The style of music is energising, so we always give it as much energy as we can, while respecting each others’ limits.

Both are great groups. Both groups play similar material, on the same equipment, with the same tutor, but the pace of learning in the Wednesday group is noticeably faster, with some significantly more complicated stuff to learn. The Wednesday group, the Olá Samba Bateria, is open to all ages while this group, the Silver Sambistas, is open to over 50s. Because we rehearse during the day, we are geared towards people who are retired and many of our member are considerably older than that (shh)!
